Developmental milestones:
As children get older and they start to roll around and move you then have the added risk of bumps and bruises and possibly cuts. Knowing how to stop bleeding correctly and bandage up a child, will go alongside the cuddles and reassurance that they will need from you.
When bringing a new baby back from the hospital, it is essential to understand their overall health, understand their characteristics and also know how to watch out for signs of problems such as irregular breathing, meningitis or possible infection. We don’t want to cause panic, however, we want you to have the skillset there to recognize these problems.
As a new parent, all of these things can be very scary, but if you have completed a child first aid course for new parents then you will already be aware of the signs and so will understand when you will need to seek emergency care and what to do in that situation.
When babies are six months they started weaning and with this, there may be the potential for choking hazards. Babies are usually moving around quite a lot by this age too and like to pick up objects as well, so knowing exactly what to do in any choking incident is going to be invaluable knowledge.
Children do not understand risks. You are their safety net. The person to keep them safe and guide them on how to keep themselves safe. As they grow, each new milestone will have its challenges, but by completing a child first aid course for new parents, we hope you will gain these necessary skills and use them to their full potential, should the need arise.
