What is an OFSTED ?
OFSTED stands for ‘The Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. Ofsted is responsible for inspecting a range of educational institutions, including state schools, some independent schools, childminders and some nannies (also known as home childcarers).
Home childcarers are not currently required to be OFSTED registered to be employed. However, some families require that their home childcarer becomes OFSTED registered on the OFSTED Voluntary Register so that the family can then have access to Government finance schemes to help pay for tax-free childcare.
Why does a childcarer need to complete an OFSTED compliant pediatric first aid course (PFA)?
To register with OFSTED as a home childcarer on the voluntary register, you are required to have completed a 12-hour pediatric first aid (PFA) course that is OFSTED compliant. This is why Childcare Help offers the 12-hour pediatric first aid (PFA) course for childcarers in the UK as standard, so then it makes OFSTED registration simpler, should it be required.
Childcare Help pediatric first aid (PFA) course for childcarers is designed for early years workers caring for young children in the absence of their parents and is appropriate to the age of the children that you will be caring for. This gives parents the reassurance that you are complying with standards set out by Ofsted and are providing a safe and caring environment for their children, and are set up and equipped for emergencies. The pediatric first aid (PFA) course gives you the skills and hands-on learning, via resuscitation dummies and equipment to practice on different sizes and ages of baby, infant and child to comply with OFSTED standards.
As an OFSTED compliant childcarer, you must understand the role that you play in pediatric first aid (PFA) within your practice. OFSTED will also require a first aid box to be easily accessed for emergencies, as well as up-to-date and precise record keeping. All of these are topics covered within the Childcare Help 12-hour pediatric first aid (PFA) course for childcarers in the UK. The price of the pediatric first aid (PFA) course for nannies is reflective of the hours spent nurturing and teaching the skills and is the cheapest blended pediatric first aid (PFA) course available to childcarers in the UK.

Don’t delay your training.
What is covered in a Paediatric First Aid (PFA) course?
In the event of a much bigger accident happening, we hope you will never have to use the pediatric first aid (PFA) skills that you learn from the 12-hour pediatric first aid course (PFA) for childcarers, but unfortunately, these situations can happen and be prepared and knowing exactly what to do in that capacity is the best practice that you can provide to any family as their child carer.
This is why it is a compulsory OFSTED requirement to complete a 12-hour pediatric first aid (PFA) course as a childcarer to be able to register on the OFSTED Voluntary or Early Years Register. You will then need to regularly update your pediatric first aid (PFA) course at least every three years to keep on top of updated legislation and new frameworks to remain on the OFSTED Voluntary or Early Years Register, and to reassure parents and future employers that your knowledge and skills are up to date.
The Childcare Help pediatric first aid (PFA) course for child carers in the UK will be taken face-to-face and follow a set of basic skills needed to care for young children.
This includes to
1. Be able to assess an emergency and prioritize what action to take
This skill is of utmost importance and will set the pace for the rest of the pediatric first aid (PFA) course for child carers, by emphasizing the importance of assessing each emergency that may arise during your employment as a child carer. It is from learning this procedure that you will then be able to use your skills to deal with any emergency.
When it comes to children, you should be prepared for any kind of emergency. Unfortunately, small children do not understand risks, and so it is down to the adult to risk assessment for them, and a family home can be a challenge to some. Children are curious about the world around them and will explore in many ways, including putting things in their mouth. To have the basic skills that a pediatric first aid (PFA) course for childcarers can offer, will not only give the parents reassurance that you are capable of keeping their children safe, but will also improve your practice to be able to assess risks, provide a safe environment, and know exactly what to do in an emergency where first aid may be required.
You will learn how to
• Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally

• Help a baby or child who is having a seizure

o Help a baby or child who is suffering from anaphylactic shock
o Help a baby or child who has had an electric shock
